Teeth can become injured or disfigured in many different ways. Whether you have suffered from injury, decay, or discoloration, Dr. David Edelson can fix your tooth with a dental crown in Plainville, CT.
A dental crown is a form of cosmetic dentistry that is used to improve the appearance and functionality of a tooth. It is essentially a type of tooth shaped encasing that is placed over your injured tooth to restore its shape, size, appearance, or strength. You may require a crown in any of the following situations:
The process of putting a dental crown in place is fairly simple and usually requires two office visits. If we are using the CEREC process to create your dental crown, then only one visit will be necessary. During the first visit, we will examine the health of your tooth and jaw to ensure that there is adequate support for a crown. If your tooth root has been significantly weakened by decay, a root canal may be necessary first.
Once your tooth has been deemed healthy enough, we can begin the cosmetic dentistry procedure. The first step is to numb your tooth and surrounding areas to eliminate any discomfort. Then the tooth will be resized and reshaped to allow room for the crown to fit comfortably. Next, an impression of the tooth is made and used to create your custom crown. Finally, we will create the crown. CEREC crowns are fabricated right in our office and cemented on the same day. If we are placing a traditional crown, which is made in a dental lab, then this process usually takes about three weeks. During your second and final visit, the crown will be permanently cemented into place.
